A school’s website is now often the primary way of marketing a school to new parents as well as keeping existing parents up-to-date with what’s happening in school. In one of my schools, we saw the website visitor stats triple on the day that Ofsted announced an inspection – clearly it was important that the website had all the essential information on so that they could access it quickly and easily.
There are certain statutory requirements for a school website. The excellent Clerk to Governors website (www.clerktogovernors.co.uk) has a great link to summarise everything here: http://www.clerktogovernors.co.uk/the-school-information-england-amendment-regulations-2012/ It’s well worth checking to make sure that everything on the list is covered on a school website.
Aside from the mandatory information, the rest of the content is, to a certain extent, subjective and will vary from school to school. I regularly use the audit checklist from the Clerk to Governors website http://www.clerktogovernors.co.uk/your-school-website/ to create an action plan for updating the school website and keeping it fresh.
